15yo Student With Gun Arrested At Pearland, Texas School

Pearland, Texas, USA: A 15-year-old student was arrested at Pearland High School in Pearland (Houston Metro), Friday morning, after Police found a gun in the student’s school bag, according to the Pearland Independent School District (ISD).

The Pearland Police Department said officers received a Crime Stoppers tip regarding a handgun being brought to Pearland High School.

Pearland Police School Resource Officers made contact with the student who was believed to be in possession of a firearm – and a firearm was found in his possession.

Police said at this time there is no threat to the school or students on campus. There are no reports of injuries.

Pearland ISD issued the following statement Friday:

“On Friday morning, March 9, a Pearland High School CrimeStoppers tip led to a student found in possession of a firearm in a backpack. At no time was the firearm removed from the backpack. Immediately, we began an investigation with assistance from the Pearland Police Department. A student has been taken into custody by Pearland Police, who also recovered the weapon. At this time there is no threat to the school or students on campus. Pearland ISD student and staff safety is always our first priority. Because this is an ongoing police investigation, further information may be obtained from the Pearland Police Department.”

The investigation is ongoing and additional details will be provided as they are made known.

Police earlier recovered a loaded gun from a pupil at a Houston Elementary School. A pupil at Collins Elementary School in Houston, Texas was caught with a loaded gun on the school campus last Thursday, Alief Police Department, APD, said.

Alief Independent School District (ISD), officials say the student showed the gun to classmates who then alerted their teacher.

Alief Police responded and took the weapon and student into custody. According to district officials, the student is being disciplined according to district policy and was removed from campus.

The pupil remains in Alief Police Department, APD, custody.

“As we are committed in partnering with you in providing a safe environment for our students, we are encouraging parents and guardians to please be aware of what your child is bringing to and from school in his or her backpack,” Alief ISD said in a statement. “Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about the importance of school safety and that if they see something, to say something.”
