Covington, Louisiana, USA : A preschool teacher accused of biting a 2-year-old student on the face has been arrested on a charge of felony cruelty to a juvenile in Louisiana. Heather Marcotte, a 28-year-old teacher at Northlake Christian School, was taken into custody Wednesday after a parent made a complaint last week, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The unidentified parent told officers that her young son had come home from school with a red mark on his cheek.
An administrator told the worried mother that Marcotte claimed she “left the mark on the child when her mouth accidentally hit his face,” though the sheriff’s office said the teacher later admitted to biting the child when she became frustrated with him.
She was fired after the biting, and now faces a count of felony cruelty to a child, a charge that can carry up to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
Northlake Christian’s website says its Early Learning Center takes children as young as six-weeks old and charges $7,600 in tuition a year.
Northlake Christian says it is a “special place where your child will be loved and nurtured.”
In a statement, Head of School Monty Fontenot says: “We’ve handled it internally and there’s no further comment.”
