HYDERABAD: The Cyber Crime cell of the Cyberabad police on Tuesday apprehended 3 Nigerians for cheating some persons on Monday. From their possession, the police recovered a Fiat car, Rs 3,000 in cash, cell phones, bank passbooks, credit and debit cards.
The 3 identified as Kehinde Oluwatosin and Oyelade Oyejide Lawrence and Etommy Martins, used to maintain a database of those who applied for a visa to Canada and called them pretending to be a Canadian Embassy official in New Delhi.
One of the victims, B Raja Reddy, who uploaded his resume on a job-searching portal, said that he had got a call from the duo on January 2, asking him to send required documents for his visa approval. After that he was he would have to undergo an anti-drug/terrorist clearance, and asked him to pay Rs 4.15 lakh. These Nigerians arrested were 419 “Yahoo Yahoo Boys” who specialize on 419 job scams.
Based on a complaint lodged by city-based job aspirant Badam Raja Reddy, the city police nabbed Kehinde Oluwatosin, Oyelade oyejide Lawrence and Etommy Martins. After Raja Reddy applied for certain jobs in job portal, he received an email from Bexon Constructions Ltd requesting him to send his resume and other particulars to the email ID: firstname.lastname@example.org. An unsuspecting Raja Reddy promptly sent his resume and other particulars along with Rs 4,15,000 for visa processing and other permits.
However, he smelt a rat when there was no reply after he transferred money to the bank account given to him. He lodged a complaint with the Cyberabad police. The latter nabbed the accused from Bengaluru after tracing the call details.
