A Nigerian national has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chandigarh Zonal Unit for drug trafficking. The suspect, Eze Uchenna James, a resident of New Delhi, was arrested with 415 gram Heroin, near Mela Ground in Sector 17 (DSP Central Office and area police station) late Wednesday evening. NCB said that the accused had kept the contraband inside a brown small bag and that it was worth around Rs 6 lakh. Eze Uchenna James was visiting Chandigarh for the third time to supply Heroin. His drug operations were spread around Chandigarh, Pinjore and Panchkula.

Officials said the contraband in a brown bag, was recovered from the accused. The NCB have also recovered his passport.

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths stated that they had secret information about a Nigerian involved in drug smuggling. He was supposed to supply the heroin and leave for Delhi from Sector 17. The NCB sleuths said the accused was supplying heroin in the tricity and other nearby cities. The officials said they were trying to identify the local drug peddlers who were in contact with the accused. On preliminary enquiry, it was revealed that earlier his associate, Refel, was also arrested by the Sirsa Police, Haryana, in a drug trafficking of 13 grams of heroin.

The police acting on a tip off were however hoping for a bigger bust. Recovery of 415 grams of heroin from a Nigerian by the NCB office, that has a very limited staff, has left the UT police red-faced, who in the recent past have failed to catch drugs in large quantities. In 2016 (till November), the Chandigarh police had made a mere recovery of 312 grams of heroin from 35 persons arrested from various parts of the city.

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sources said records show that James arrived in India in 2011 and in 2014 he married a Nigerian girl in India.
