Solon Township, Michigan: Authorities say three children and a woman were found dead of apparent gunshot wounds at a home in western Michigan.
Kent County Sheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young says authorities responded Monday to a property near Cedar Springs, a community about 48 kilometres north of Grand Rapids. She says someone discovered the bodies and called 911.
LaJoye-Young said the three children were elementary school-aged and younger but declined to provide further information about the victims’ relationships to one another. She said authorities were still confirming the victims’ identities.
LaJoye-Young called the scene “a horrific thing to be called to” and said “my heart goes out to the families involved here and the community.”
Authorities don’t believe there is a shooter at large. An investigation is ongoing.
And late Monday night family members identified the victims.
They are two-year-old Alanah Moore, six-year-old Cassidy Graham, eight-year-old Kyrie Graham and the woman as Aubrianne Moore.
WOOD TV8 reports the bodies were found on property along 19 Mile Road near Division Avenue in Solon Township near Cedar Springs.
But police do not think that’s where the children were shot.
The sheriff has not given information on the victims’ relationships to one another, but family members say Moore was the children’s mother.
The sheriff’s office does not believe a shooter is on the loose.
“We are talking to witnesses right now. We don’t believe that there is anybody outstanding right now that is a danger to the community but obviously it’s a very new situation so we are actively investigating trying to get to the bottom of what happened today,” says Kent County sheriff Michelle Lajoye-Young.
Police are now working to gather evidence and interviewing witnesses.
