Milwaukee: Authorities have charged Amanda-Linn Tanski, a 30-year-old Cudahy woman with f first-degree reckless homicide after her 14-day-old baby died from a dose of methadone.
Amanda-Linn Tanski was charged Jan. 23 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court after her child was found dead Dec. 19, according to the criminal complaint.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s office said the child died of acute methadone intoxication.
Tanski told police she had been receiving prescribed methadone treatments, but had been told by a doctor she could breastfeed her child.
On the day the infant died, she first told police she’d breastfed the baby and supplemented the feeding with a 1-ounce bottle of formula. But she changed that later to omit the reference to the formula, according to the complaint.
An autopsy found no causes of trauma that would explain the child’s death. But toxicology tests found 53 micrograms of methadone per liter of blood in the child’s system. Milwaukee County Medical Examiner Brian Peterson described the amount as lethal and said it could not have been delivered through breastfeeding, it said.
