Charlotte, North Carolina, USA: A ride at an amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina has resumed operations after a bumper car caught fire on Monday afternoon.

The bumper car caught fire around 12:30 p.m. at the Dog’ems ride at Carowinds. Officials say the passengers had exited the cars before the fire and no one was reported injured.

The ride attendant immediately responded to the bumper car with a fire extinguisher as trained, according to a Carowinds spokesperson.

The ride has been inspected and has resumed normal operations, Carowinds said.

In other odd bumper car news this week, a woman in southwest China recently caught the attention of motorists, and eventually the police, while cruising down a busy street in her pink bumper car.

The 50-year-old woman from Guiyang, Guizhou province, was pulled over by local police on the afternoon of May 24 while she was on her way to work in her unusual car, according to Chinese media reports.

A video of the bizarre incident went viral after it was posted on Chinese social media platforms.

It shows the woman turning into a three-lane street, before casually making her way down the rightmost lane. Vehicles could be seen whizzing past her.

Chinese news media said that the woman runs a bumper car business in the city, and decided to drive the car from her home to her shop as it was more convenient.

In fact, this was not her first trip in the pink bumper car.

She had been caught and warned by police on several past occasions, and she had been warned that bumpers cars cannot be driven on the roads.

This time, however, her bumper car was seized by officers.

In October 2016, two men were spotted racing down a street in Shenyang, Liaoning province in green and yellow bumper cars.

The men had reportedly complied with road rules by stopping at the traffic lights.

But their actions similarly prompted the authorities to issue a warning about such “dangerous behaviour”.
