A Teacher’s apparently good intentions to help students relieve exam stress has turned tragic as two of the students, both fifteen years old, at the “after exam party” are reported to have drowned at the pool of the hotel facility where they were meeting in effurun, Delta state, Nigeria.

The JSS 3 students from Challenge lntl. School kolokolo Udu road warri were having the “after exam party” at the pool and recreational facility of the Golden Tulip along PTI junction effurun together with their teacher.

Two 15-year-old boys in Junior Secondary School have been reported dead at a hotel on PTI junction, Effurun, Delta State during an “after exam party” instigated by their teacher.

One of the two boys, Samson O. Atamako, 15, was the son of Nigeria Female Football Team, Super Falcons Coach, Florence Omagbemi. The other dead child has also been identifed as Darlington Taire, also 15 years old. Florence Omagbemi lost her father only six months earlier.

The Nigeria Police Station – Ebrumede under Investigating police officer, IPO, Lucky is investigating the incident. The whereabouts of the teacher is not known at this time, according to the police.

The Golden Tulip hotel management reportedly wants the case to be treated by the police as a tragedy and not a crime by the teacher who had the best of intentions.

Former U23 media officer and now Delta-state based journalist, Timi Ebikagboro reacts:

“Am just in a sad mood, how on earth will a teacher take JSS students to a hotel in Effurun for an after exam party and in the end 2 of the innocent students got killed and thrown into the hotel pool, one of tho dead kid is the “son” of our own Florence Omagbemi Super Falcons head coach, pls I beg all of you to put her in your prayers, she needs all our support in this her trying times, I hope the Delta State Ministry of Education will act on this?”

The Nigeria football Federation (NFF) on Thursday, June 15 also confirmed the incident but gave no further details.
