Another Cherubim “Prophet” Babatunde Arrested With Human Parts In Ogun State – Police

OTA, NIGERIA. 77 year old “Prophet” Samuel Babatunde, founder of Cherubim and Seraphim “Church”, Itedo Isinmi Ayo Parish, Egan Road in Iyana-Iyesi area of Ota in Ado-Odo Ota LGA of Ogun was arrested by Police in Ogun state, Nigeria together with two other suspects in connection with the discovery of human parts buried inside the church.

The state Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, who paraded the pastor in Ota, told reporters that the discovery followed the arrest on Saturday of a suspected serial abductor, Jeremiah Adeola. He said that Jeremiah Adeola, 32, who specialised in abducting children, confessed that the pastor of the white garment church was the receiver of the abducted children. The CP added that a 43-year-old herbalist, Haruna Afolabi, was among the suspects, who allegedly buried the human parts at the entrance of the church.

According to the police boss, operatives attached to the police Area Command in Ota on Sunday received intelligence about Adeola and arrested him.

Ahmed Iliyasu said:
“On the strength of the intelligence, detectives from Ota Area Command were detailed to effect the arrest of the suspect. At about 10.20 a.m. of the date, their efforts paid off when the said Jeremiah Adeola was arrested. On interrogation, Jeremiah Adeola confessed being a serial abductor and mentioned a prophet of a white garment church as the receiver of the abducted children.

Upon interrogation, Jeremiah Adeola was taken to the house/church the said prophet at Iyana-Iyesi Ota, where one Prophet Samuel Babatunde, 77 years, the pastor in charge of the church and one Haruna Afolabi, 42 years, a traditional worshiper, were arrested. The floor of the church was dug as described by the first suspect and parts suspected strongly to be human parts were dug out.”

The commissioner also said the police command would conduct forensic investigation into the case. He assured that all those found guilty of the crime would be brought to justice, adding that Ogun State would never be a safe haven for criminals.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen, the “pastor” denied the allegation leveled against him. Samuel Babatunde proferred that a pig was buried alive inside the church contrary to claims that human parts were buried there. He said that he carried out the act in order to bring good fortune, prosperity and comfort to his congregation.

Samuel Babatunde said though he met Jeremiah Adeola at a prayer mountain in Ibadan, he never had any dealing with the alleged serial abductor, whom he accused of being mentally unstable.

However, Jeremiah Adeola insisted that the pastor was the receiver of some abducted children. He said the cleric paid him N50, 000 each for the two children he supplied to him.

The “prophet” and founder of St. Moses Orimolade Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Osere area, Ilorin, Gabriel Josaya, alongside two others, were Tuesday, remanded in prison for allegedly being in possession of 120 human skulls. They are also accused of selling human skulls.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant A. Seye, told the Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, that the information that led to the arrest of the accused was received on February 5 but that the accused had been on the job since 2009.

Seye said the accused were said to have regularly gained access to the popular Muslim Cemetery in the area since 2009 to commit the crime

“Josaya, aka Eli-Wakuku, was charged along with one Gabriel Moyosore and Yinusa Ayinla for criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass and unlawful possession of human head, contrary to sections 97, 348, 219 of penal code law.The fourth accused, identified as Alfa Alaba Isiaka, is at large. The accused sold a skull for between N6,000 and N8,000.”

According to the prosecutor, “The police First Information Report, FIR, on the case reads in part: “That you Gabriel Josaya aka Eli-
Wakuku, the prophet and founder of St Moses Orimolade Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Osere area, Ilorin conspired with you, Gabriel Moyosore ‘m,’ Yinusa Sa’ad Ayinla, Alfa Alaba Isiaka (at large) and others unlawfully used to gain entrance into Muslim Cemetery ground, Osere area, Ilorin, since the year 2009 till date where some human skulls have been removed by you and sold to your various customers at the rate of N8,000 per skull.”
