Houston, TX, USA : A substitute teacher at C. J. Harris Elementary School in Pearland (Houston Metro), Texas called the police this week claiming that a child kept repeating “Allah” and “boom” in the class and that she feared the 6-year-old Muslim boy, Mohammad Suleiman, with Down syndrome, was a terrorist.

The teacher’s phone call to police prompted both a police investigation and a Child Protective Services investigation into the Suleiman family.

The child’s father Maher Suleiman said that the boy was born with Down’s syndrome, had intellectual difficulties and couldn’t speak.

“She claimed he was a terrorist,” Maher said, adding that “this is so stupid, it’s discrimination. Actually, it’s not implied discrimination, it’s actual discrimination.”

“It’s not true, he doesn’t speak at all,” said the boy’s father, Maher Suleiman, of his son, who was born with Down syndrome chromosome 21.

“The last three to four weeks have been the hardest of my life,” said Maher Suleiman. “My wife and kids were crying a few days ago and I told them everything is fine.”

The Pearland Police Department says that it has concluded its investigation and has found no need to take further action, while the Child Protective Services department says its investigation is ongoing.

A spokesperson for the school said that it couldn’t provide any personal information on the issue, as it violated privacy law. The controversial move has prompted harsh criticism on social media.
