Triathlete Banned From Sushi Buffet Restaurant After 80 Servings

Landshut, Germany : Triathlete and bodybuilder Jaroslav Bobrowski, 30, has been banned from an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet restaurant. Bobrowski estimates that he ate 80 plates of sushi before he was banned.

All-you-can-eat is a bold proposition used by restaurants to challenge the public to test their appetites time and time again. But one restaurateur didn’t account for an athlete’s insatiable hunger.

Triathlete and bodybuilder Jaroslav Bobrowski, maintains a highly-disciplined lifestyle, developing software by day and relentlessly working out at night for both triathlons and bodybuilding competitions.

The latter requires strict dedication to maintaining a superhuman physique and often requires extraordinary diets to maintain. Bobrowski fasts for 20 hours each day, and affords himself just one four-hour window in which to consume his daily calorie intake

After one recent and particularly strenuous workout, Bobrowski and his girlfriend decided to visit the local all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant in Landshut, Germany. Before long, the 79-kilo athlete’s insatiable hunger had irked staff to such a degree that they simply refused to clear the empty plates from the table.

An hour-and-a-half into the fishy feast, after an estimated 80 servings of sushi, Bobrowski and his girlfriend ran out of real estate on the dinner table for more plates of food. They eventually took the hint and decided it was time to leave, at which point the waiter broke the bad news. He was told that it would be his last meal at the restaurant and is now banned for devouring the restaurant’s food, as well as its profits.

“My girlfriend and I used to go to the gym, we had good training and then good hunger. We took our time, took our plates off the treadmill until we were full, and after two hours we wanted to leave and give a little tip. However, the waiter did not accept my tip and instead said that I would not be allowed to enter the restaurant on the instructions of the boss in the future.” Bobrowski said.

“He eats for five, that’s not normal,” the restaurant owner said of the ban in an interview.

“I am used to being seen as abnormal as far as nutrition is concerned. My girlfriend was also rather amused,” Bobrowski told Seuddeutsche Zeitung.

“But I am not angry or resentful. If we could find a solution that would make both sides happy, I would go again. The food was good after all.”

However, following the media attention surrounding Bobrowski’s phenomenal feast, both he and the restaurateur have called a truce and come to an agreement which satisfies both parties.

“I’m open and willing to compromise, I do not want to ruin the business for God’s sake,” Bobrowski says of the new deal where he can still avail of the €15.90 all-you-can-eat deal at the eatery, but only at the end of the day when mere mortals have had their fill of fish.

For what reason?

He said I just eat too much, they would not make a profit.

The “Passauer Neue Presse” writes that you had eaten 100 servings.

Yes, some have already rounded up a bit. I think it was about 80 plates, but there is not much on it.

Do you always eat so much?

Yes, that is normal for me. I train a lot and follow a nutritional plan, after which I do not eat much of the day, and in certain time windows I spend a lot of time. In normal restaurants, I see that I choose the largest portions, or I order directly two. But there have never been any problems, not even with other “all you can eat” restaurants.

Has the waiter ever said something in between or slowed you down?

Not at all. They just did not clear the plates. But I did not take that as a hint, but thought it was because the restaurant was packed. I found it a bit tedious to have to stack the plates so high.

How did you feel when you were told that you are now banned for eating too much?

This is not unpleasant for me. I am used to being seen as abnormal as far as nutrition is concerned. On the one hand, I found it funny, but of course also unattractive, that they give me a home ban without warning. And I was a bit proud, too, that once again confirmed that I can eat something more than a normal person. My girlfriend was also rather amused.

Have you ever participated in a betting dinner?

Never, because it’s not just about the amount, but also about the speed. I am eating at a normal pace and also aware, just a little more than others.

Did you hear from the restaurant again after the story became so popular?

No, I only read in a newspaper article that they were sorry, but they had seen virtually no other option. But I am not angry or resentful. If we could find a solution that would make both sides happy, I would go again. The food was good after all.
