Presidency Debunks Media Reports That Buhari Will Leave Nigeria Monday Sept 4
Abuja, Nigeria. Sept 3rd. The Nigerian presidency has debunked media reports which stated that President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to travel out of Nigeria, tomorrow, Monday, September 4th. Presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie took to twitter on Sunday afternoon to debunk the reports that have since gone viral online and carried by nearly every major media organization.
“It’s not true that @NGRPresident @MBuhari is Set For a USA Trip tomorrow, Monday 4/9/2017. Pres Buhari always informs Nigerians of his trips.”
Nigeria Circle News warned earlier about these media reports which the Presidency has now debunked. See below:
President Buhari To Leave Nigeria On Monday Sept 4 – Media Reports
Abuja, Nigeria. Sept 3rd. There has been no official confirmation from the presidency, of media reports that baring any last minute change of mind, President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Nigeria on Monday, September 4, 2017 for a trip to Washington, DC. The President is reportedly scheduled to leave his hometown, Daura, by helicopter at 9:15 am on Monday for Katsina airport. From the airport, he will fly out at 10 am aboard a presidential jet to Washington, DC.
Local media claim Buhari’s trip to the US is at the invitation of President Donald Trump. The reports also claim that an anonymous Nigerian Presidency source said that Trump had extended the invitation last February, shortly after his inauguration.
The anonymous source reportedly said the earlier plan was for the president to combine the official visit to the US with his participation at the UN General Assembly in New York from September 21 to 25, 2017.
For what it is worth, Nigeria Circle News has not verified this information as it is not from the presidency.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari recently returned to the country after more than three months in the UK for medical treatment for an undisclosed “health challenge”. The 74-year-old left for London on May 7. His prolonged absence caused tensions back home where calls have grown for him to either return or resign. That was Buhari’s second break for medical leave in London this year after a first that began in January and lasted nearly two months, a combined total of 153 days in London this year for medical vacation.
He has been working from home since his return because according to his spokesman, rats ate his office while he was away on medical vacation (cough, cough).
His main opponents in the 2015 election that brought him to power claimed he had prostate cancer. He has denied that claim.
The health of Nigeria’s leaders has been a sensitive issue since the 2010 death in office of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua after months of treatment abroad. Buhari’s four-year term ends in 2019.
