Chengdu, China. Sept 12th: The 22nd General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization began on Monday, in the city of Chengdu in China. Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, leads the Nigerian delegation which includes the Chairman, Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism, Senator Matthew Urhogide. Over 18 programs are lined up for discussion at the conference which would last for 5 days.
The Minister said the Nigerian government’s diversification agenda of the nation’s economy had made it mandatory for the country to participate.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to host African Tourism Ministers under the aegis of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Commission on Africa (CAF) next year.
He said the choice of Abuja as the host city is part of the government’s effort to promote the Nigerian capital city as a conference destination within the sub-region.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated this while addressing the 60th UNWTO CAF Meeting in Chengdu, China, on Tuesday. He also said the 61st Edition of the meeting would be held in Abuja 4-6 June 2018.
Nigeria won the rights to host the UNWTO Commission for Africa meeting in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja in 2018.
