Fresh from it’s supreme court victory over Ali Modu Sheriff faction, The Ahmed Makarfi faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party is rushing up to catch up with preparations for the 2019 elections and has now officially zoned the presidency to the North. Making the revelation in Minna, Niger state, the PDP chairman in Niger state, Alhaji Tanko Beji, reportedly said the decision was reached at a meeting to discuss the recent judgement of the Supreme Court.
This is reportedly aimed at countering the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which has the president, Muhammadu Buhari from the north. The vice presidential slot is to be zoned to the southern part of the country. The zoning decision was reached as the party announced that its national convention would take place in October this year. As a result of the preparation for the convention, each state branch of the party has been directed to submit 30 names.
Alhaji Tanko Beji advised ambitious members of the party to ensure they have the mandate of the people.
“Anyone with ambition to seek political office should go to the people, the leadership will not allow imposition of candidates,”he reportedly said.
The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),Ahmed Makarfi, has repotedly declared ‘general amnesty’ for its members involved in the leadership tussle that last for over one year. Makarfi made the announcement while fielding questions from journalists on whether the party would sanction the sacked national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
