Los Angeles, California, USA: The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated The Houston Astros 3-1 in Los Angeles tonight, October 31, to take the World Series to Game 7.

Both teams had one single through two innings before George Springer cranked a two-out homer to right field against starter Rich Hill, in the third to put Houston ahead, 1-0.

For Houston, Game 6 was about their failure to capitalize on opportunities to get on the board. They scored their only run when Astros center fielder George Springer hit a home run off of Dodgers starter Rich Hill in the top of the third inning.

Taylor tied it with an RBI double to right, and Corey Seager sent a fly ball to deep right that Josh Reddick caught with his back to the wall, allowing Utley to score with the go-ahead run. The Dodgers led, 2-1.

But the bottom of the Dodgers’ order set up a two-run rally in the sixth against Verlander, and Joc Pederson sailed a home run to left field in the seventh off reliever Joe Musgrove to send Los Angeles to a 3-1 win at Dodger Stadium and force a winner-take-all Game 7 in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.

The Game 6 defeat marked the Astros’ first in the 11 appearances (10 starts) Justin Verlander has made for them since the Aug. 31 trade. Verlander dominated for the first five innings but was undone by a hit by pitch and two timely Dodgers hits in the sixth.

After 179 games, the last 17 covering the three rounds of the postseason, the Astros’ season will come down to one game on Wednesday.

Yu Darvish starts Wednesday for the Dodgers, trying to win their first title since 1988, and Lance McCullers Jr. for the Astros in the first World Series Game 7 ever at Dodger Stadium. Darvish was chased in the second inning of Game 2, when McCullers pitched Houston to a 5-3 victory.

This will be the third World Series Game 7 in four years. Ten of the last 12 teams that won Game 6 to force a seventh game also won the title, but the Dodgers lost the previous six World Series in which they trailed 3-2. They have won just one of their six championships at home, in 1963.

Astros vs Dodgers will be the first World Series Game 7 between 100-win teams since 1931, when the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia A’s.
