Nigerian Professional Football League side, Kwara United has been hit on Friday morning, May 26, 2017, with the tragic death of Azeez Saka, 24. The defender reportedly slumped while training with members of his team at the Kwara state stadium complex in Ilorin, and kicked the bucket as endeavors made to revive his life proved futile, in what has turned into a black Friday for Nigeria’s football. Late Saka Abdulazeez was a defender and played in the left full back positon. He joined the service of Kwara United FC from Zamfara FC at the beginning of the current 2017/2018 Nigeria National League (NNL) Season.
A native of Share in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, late Saka Abdulazeez is also a biological son to former African Table Tennis Champion Kasali Lasisi.
Former Nigeria U20 and Kwara United coach, John Obuh additionally affirmed the player’s demise. Obuh said the Nigeria National League (NNL) team has cancelled training till Monday as a sign of regard for the deceased.
According to the club’s Media Officer, Abdulwaheed Bibire, Azeez’s death came as a rude shock to the club. He said the cause of his death has however not been ascertained. A statement signed by the media officer Kwara United FC Abdul Waheed Bibire described the death of the young lad as a rude shock in-view of his contributions to the club.
The entire soccer fans according to the statement will surely miss the player, a professional on and off the pitch, easy going and a dedicated person. “To Almighty Allah we come and to him we shall return”, death is inevitable which every soul will experience hence the need for his family, friends, close associates and soccer fans to take solace in Allah for the irreparable loss.
Meanwhile Kwara United president Sir Prince Oladimeji Ladi Thompson said the soccer world is a mourning mood over Saka Abdulazeez’s death. According to him the player was young and promising with potential to reach the pinnacle of his professional career.
The Kwara State Government has also commiserated with the family of the late Saka Abdulazeez a player of Kwara United FC who slumped and died on Friday 26th May 2017. In a statement , the government also restated it’s resolve to assist with any issues that will further ensure the well-being of players. The Government also condoles with the Nigeria National League over the loss.
He has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
