Rohr – Super Eagles Begin Camping In France May 23. To Play Corsica. Nigeria Super Eagles, three-time Africa champions will open camp from the 23rd of May as part of preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa. While in France they are scheduled to play a friendly aganist Corsica, a tiny island in France according to head coach Gernot Rohr.

Speaking in a radio interview Rohr said:

“We will play against Corsica and we will have about 20 to 23 players. But not all the players will come with us to Paris on May 23 when we meet before proceeding to Ajaccio in Corsica, where the game will be played.”

Super Eagles could also play Burkina Faso in another international friendly in Paris, during their stay in France, Rohr has said.

Both teams were billed to face each other last month in London, but the game was called off after the Burkinabe failed to secure entry visas into the United Kingdom.

The Nigerian team will be praying for a speedy recovery for first choice goal keeper Carl ikeme as the camping date approaches. Ikeme is yet to recover from his injury which he sustained while on international duty for Nigeria in an international friendly against Senegal in London in late March.

Since sustaining the injury, Ikeme has missed Wolves three league games against Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.

Meanwhile Gernot Rohr, has also disclosed in the interview how dissatisfied he is with the way players in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), lie about their age. He further said that’s why, he hardly invites any of them to the national team.

“There is an existing problem with Nigeria based players. We cannot tell their real age.The door is always open for the best players. The Nigeria League players must prove themselves with the CHAN team first, because at the moment we have a winning team, so the home based players must prove they deserve a place in the team.”

In recent times, Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa has been the only home-based player invited by Rohr, for the recent games against Algeria and Senegal.
